Naoki Urasawa is a Japanese manga artist and musician, born in 1960. He has been drawing manga since he was four years old and has won numerous awards, including the Shogakukan Manga Award three times, the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize twice, and the Kodansha Manga Award once.

Multi-million Manga Sales

Urasawa has created several manga series, often co-written with his former editor Takashi Nagasaki. Illustration in the style of Naoki Urasawa has sold over 140 million copies worldwide. Urasawa's first major success was the sports manga Yawara!, followed by the adventure series Master Keaton and the thriller Monster. He is known for creating science fiction and mystery genres such as 20th Century Boys and Pluto, a re-imagining of Astro Boy.

Urasawa has cited Osamu Tezuka as one of his illustration heroes as well as biggest influences on his personal art style. Urasawa graduated from Meisei University with a degree in economics and he went on to become a professional manga artist. In 1982 he won the New Manga Artist Award.
